"We shall build relationships with individual children and families while individualizing the curricula and learning environments to facilitate young children's development and learning."In the daycare I was previously working at, I built a relationship with all the children; getting to know the child as a little grown up. Their personality, likes, dislikes, toys they play with, what kind of talent they have that makes them different from the others, and making sure their needs were met as a student. It is a wonderful feeling knowing a different side of a child. With that being said, having a relationship with the parents is always a plus because sharing news about their child and their accomplishments is something a parent would like to hear instead of negative things about their child. The parents would exchange words of joy about their child's accomplishment and the difference they see in their child. Til this day I still keep in contact with parents and children I use to work with. It is a joy when they have a big smile on their face because they are so happy to see me. I am currently working at Wal-Mart Super Market and I have a student who insists to come see me before she goes shopping with mom or grandpa. It feels good to hear, Hi Ms. M, I am going to be 6 in two weeks. Knowing that you had her since she was 3 years old in my preschool program because she was too smart for her own good.
"We shall respect, value, promote, and encourage the active participation of ALL families by engaging families in meaningful ways in the assessment and intervention processes."
Open House was a time for all parents to come and see the work of their children. As a team in the daycare, we set up different activities for the parents to participate with each other and the stimulation their child does every day. There would be circle time, block area, science, art and math area set up for the parents. Parents would take a big folder of their child's work home, but actually get hands on activities with their child as well. It is a great feeling to see them interact, laugh and exchange positive words about the activity performed by both parent and child.
