Breastfeeding
is builds a bond between the baby and the mother. Some mothers enjoy the breastfeeding
and others prefer the bottle right away. Breast milk is the best way to feed
your baby. The benefits goes beyond basic nutrition. It contains the vitamins
and nutrients a baby needs in the first six months of life, as well as
substances that will protect the baby from any illness. According to Berger,
nutrition starts with colostrum, a
thick, high-calorie fluid secreted by the mother’s breast at birth (Berger,
2012). Colostrum is full of antibodies and immunoglobulins, which not only help
protect the newborn, but also has a laxative effect that helps them expel the tarry
first stools call meconium (Barger, 2015). Babies who are not breastfed are
more likely to be sicker than the ones who are breastfeed. The specific fats
and sugars in breast milk make it more digestible and better for the brain than
any formula (Berger, 2012).
I
chose breastfeeding because I do not see many mothers breastfeeding anymore.
The high level of working mothers are using the bottle now. Some mothers think
it takes too much time to pump milk or going to the location where the baby is
present to breastfeed her or him. For example, my god daughter who was not
breastfeed and was sick with a high fever when she was three months old and
consistently sick, from head cold, viral infection in her chest, and chest
congestion. My niece and nephew, on the other hand was breast feed and was sick once from
the weather change, allergies. Otherwise she is healthy, chunky and happy.

China
is a bit of a challenge. Statistics says that China has better breastfeeding rates
than the United States and Europe, but the hospitals there are less supportive
and understanding about breastfeeding. The mothers in China have a large amount
of pressure to use formula in the hospital. With that being said, there are
formula samples given out at prenatal checkups, free “breastfeeding classes”
are held by formula companies and their posters are all over the hospitals to
promote their products (Carman, 2015).
This
may impact my future work because I hope to be a nanny to a newborn and hoping
the mother of this baby will be breastfeeding as well as my future home daycare
I would like to open. I will have mothers come and bond with their babies. It is so beautiful to see a mother come
breastfeed her child and just bond with her or him. The small moments like this
is precious and meaningful. I may not be a mother anytime soon, but to hear the cooing from the baby and the small talks from the mom is wonderful.

Hi Maria ,
ReplyDeleteI enjoy reading your blog information was very informative. I agree with you when you stated breast milk is the best milk for new born babies instead of the bottle. My younger cousin had her baby 2months ago and I'm trying to get her to breastfeed instead she ignores me and want to use the bottle. Hopefully one day she will listen to me. Thanks, Maranda Heads
Maria,
ReplyDeleteI wrote about breastfeeding as well and your info is great! Your niece and nephew are SOOO CUTE!!!!! I breastfed my daughter and although she deals with allergies like your niece and nephew, she does not get sick as much as other kids. She has never even had a cold and she is almost 5 years old.
Thank you Nicole. I love them so..
DeleteI don't have a child of my own but am unsure about whether or not I would want to breastfeed. I understand that there are significant nutritional benefits, but it seems difficult to do as someone with a full time job and no patience. Also, people tend to be very pushy about breast feeding, which makes me not want to do it. But I know some people have a very hard time with it and some people have a very easy time with it, so should I ever decide to have a child we'd jusgt have to see which camp I'd fall into. Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteStein,
DeleteEveryone has their opinion about breastfeeding and I can respect your comment. I personally would do it if I had kids just so I can bond with my child in a different way.
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteYour niece and nephew they are way toooooo cute!!! Look at those little juicy legs and cheeks!!! I thought my son would be a juicy little fellow because generally the kids that I saw which were breastfed were always juicy. My son was not though....not even to this day...LOL!!! I have the same comparison that you made about the health of your niece and nephew with my children. My son, who is the only one of my children who was breastfed, and has not been sick besides with his allergies. My 3 girls seemed to be always sick.
I will say it does take a lot of patience and persistence to be successful at it. I couldn't get it with the girls, but with my son my persistence and great support from the hospital made it possible.
Thanks for the great post and information!!
Maria,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the picture of your niece and nephew. Breastfeeding is a great way for a mother and a child to bond. My sister breastfed both of her children and they have not been that sick since they have been born. She found it easier and healthier for the two of them. It seems as though mothers in this generation are getting younger and younger and they are not being taught about breastfeeding their baby and how much healthier it is for them. It is a shame that the doctors in China are less supportive of breastfeeding and pushing the mothers to use formula. It is good that they offer free breastfeeding classes but they still should allow the mothers to breastfeed their infant and bond with them. Good luck on you in the future in opening your own daycare. It is thoughtful of you to give the mothers to come and bond with their infant through breastfeeding.
Maria,
ReplyDeleteGreat post, very informative. From a mother's perspective, this can come as a very touchy subject. I tried so hard to breastfeed, but it just wasn't the right fit for my daughter and I. I felt the scrutiny from the maternity nurses while I was in the hospital. Looking back, I wish I would have tried harder but when you feel like your lack support, especially as a first time mom. Breastfeeding is natural, but it doesn't always come natural. That is a common misconception that people who have experienced it, have. I respect your perspective on the issue. When the time is right for me to have another baby, I plan to try again. I have researched more options and I feel more comfortable with trying again. I hope someday you are able to bond with your child, it's a great experience!
Love your Blog, I know first hand that children are less likely to be sick if they are breastfeed. I also heard several women say it hurts that is the reason they don't. I try to explained to them the joy and bond you build with your child is better than any little discomfort it my cause in the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog but I do not have any children to have had that experience. I know my mom told me that I the only one that she ever breast feed. I know there is some mothers that wants to breast feed their baby but they can't due the lack of milk produce cause my best friend had that problem. Thank you for sharing those beautiful picture of your niece and nephew.
